The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) on December 10, 2025, issued Guidelines for Grant of Autonomy to Polytechnic Institutes (Amended)-2025
The following has been stated: -
•Autonomous polytechnic institutes can design and revise their own courses, assessments, examinations, and academic structures, including issuing results and certificates.
•They may form their own governance bodies, manage administrative and faculty appointments (as per AICTE and State rules), and receive priority for funding under quality schemes.
•Autonomy covers all existing and newly introduced programmes and is granted for five years, extendable upon satisfactory performance. Institutes gain financial powers to use IRG/CSR/external funds following GFR norms.
•To qualify, they must meet essential criteria such as minimum years of existence, NBA accreditation (or 25 years’ existence), adequate faculty strength and experience, compliant infrastructure, minimum 50% admissions and results, faculty training benchmarks, and at least 50% student placements or progression.
